Montana Tourist Attractions
Though Montana is sparsely populated the state offers plenty to see and do. There are attractive cities, famous national parks, culture and history to enjoy in Montana.
Montana’s Cities
The state capital is the attractive town of Helena. It’s an historic city and has several landmarks to see making this worthy of one or two days out of your itinerary. The Montana State Capitol Building is one of the city’s famous landmarks, while there’s also the beautiful St Helena Cathedral.
Billings is larger than Helena; in fact it’s Montana’s largest city. There aren’t too many specific tourist attractions here but it is a popular stopover for tourists travelling through to the famous Yellowstone National Park. While you’re here make sure you visit one of the USA’s most famous battle sites where the Battle of Little Bighorn took place. The site is now a national monument and includes the Indian Memorial, the Custer National Cemetery, and the US Army Memorial on Last Stand Hill. Pictograph Cave State Park is another fairly famous park that’s within day trip visit of Billings.
Yellowstone National Park
Montana has two of the USA’s most famous national parks, Yellowstone and Glacier. Yellowstone is actually situated across a couple of states though the majority of it is here in Montana. Yellowstone was the first national park in the USA and it’s most famous for its hot springs and geysers including Mammoth Hot Springs, and the geysers, Old Faithful and Grand Geyser. If you’re staying in the park for a while you may be lucky enough to spot some of wildlife here that includes the Golden Eagle and the Bald Eagle, plus elk, bison and wolves.
Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park sits on the border with Canada where the Waterton Lakes National Park is situated. The two were twinned together in 1932 to make the world’s first International Peace Park. Glacier National Park isn’t as popular or well known or Yellowstone but if you want to enjoy some absolutely stunning scenery then this is the place to come!
