Cleveland Tourist Attractions

What makes Cleveland an interesting destination is the variety of attractions here. It was once known just as an industrial city and suffered decline in the 1970s, but over the past decade Cleveland has seen plenty of revitalisation, making it the popular city it is today.

Terminal Tower

During the industrial boom of the city, many landmark buildings were constructed in Cleveland and they still stand today. Terminal Tower is one of these, and it was built in 1929 when it was the second tallest building in the world. It remains the second tallest building in Cleveland today and the observation deck has been reopened after years of closure, giving visitors the opportunity to see Cleveland from above. The tower is at the heart of the Tower City Center and it was the main railroad terminal back in its heyday.

University Circle

If you’re interested in museums then head to Cleveland’s University Circle neighbourhood as you’ll find a number of museums here. There’s a broad variety including the Children’s Museum of Cleveland, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum, the Temple Museum of Religious Art, and more.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

One of the best known attractions in Cleveland is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Cleveland can claim to be the home of rock and roll music as it was a Cleveland DJ who coined the phrase, and the city was the home of the first rock concert.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a great visit for anyone interested in this genre of music as it features a huge collection of memorabilia from across the years.

Cleveland Botanical Garden

For a change of pace there’s the Cleveland Botanical Garden, located on the East Side of the city. If you enjoy this kind of attraction you should definitely enjoy these botanical gardens, the highlight of which is a giant glasshouse that features a Madagascan desert and a Costa Rican rainforest.

Another natural attraction in Cleveland is the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The zoo also has a rainforest exhibit, along with animals from around the world.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

There’s just one national park in the state of Ohio and it includes parts of the city of Cleveland; to be specific, the Ohio and Erie Canal, which has been preserved and protected under the National Parks system.

When Should You Visit Cleveland?

Summers are always a popular time to visit Cleveland. Temperatures are not usually too high in this city, but there is high humidity to deal with. Autumn can be a very nice time to visit as the days are warm and pleasant, so still good for sightseeing. Winter in contrast can be cold and miserable, exacerbated by the effects of Lake Erie providing lake effect snow and cold temperatures.
