Pennsylvania
Known for its large cities including Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, the state of Pennsylvania actually has more than cities to offer. Located in the Mid Atlantic region in the north east of the United States, Pennsylvania also has plenty of great scenery and historical attractions too.
Flights to Pennsylvania
There are many regional airports across the state, but the two main airports for international flights to Pennsylvania are the Philadelphia International Airport (airport code: PHL) and the Pittsburgh International Airport (code: PIT). Both are located near the cities they are named for. Flights to Pennsylvania from London are available with many major airlines to either airport, usually with one connection, however there are direct flights to Pennsylvania with British Airways arriving in Philadelphia. Other airlines offering one stop flights to Pennsylvania include Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines.
Pennsylvania Tourist Attractions
Philadelphia
Pennsylvania‘s largest city is Philadelphia. Famous for numerous things including Rocky, and for being the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia is a very large city with many attractions. See the famous statue of Rocky outside one of the city’s top museums, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, while inside you’ll be treated to one of the largest art collections in the world. Philadelphia is also home to one of the United States’ most prized historic possessions, the Liberty Bell, and you can see this as well as Constitution Hall and the whole of the Independence National Historic Park.
Pittsburgh
Pennsylvania’s second largest city is Pittsburgh, famous for its long industrial history built on the manufacture of steel. While industry is still present today Pittsburgh is a culturally rich city with many museums including the famous Carnegie Museums, and the Andy Warhol Museum.
Harrisburg
A much smaller city than the first two, but all the same, Harrisburg is the capital city of Pennsylvania. The small city charm makes this a lovely alternative to those larger cities and the main attraction is the 1902 built State Capitol Building, in the Beaux-Arts style. Gettysburg
Gettysburg is a very famous battle site and was home to one of the most important battles of the American Civil War, in July 1863. The Gettysburg Hall of Presidents Museum is an interesting attraction in the town, and there’s also the National Civil War Wax Museum where you can find out more about the history and the people of the Civil War.
Pennsylvania’s State Parks
Though there are no national parks in Pennsylvania there’s an impressive 121 state parks. All the state parks have free admission so there’s non excuse not to get out and explore some of the great outdoors. The Poconos Mountains is another scenic area in Pennsylvania where you can go skiing in the winter and enjoy hiking, fishing and camping in the summer months.
When Should You Visit Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania has a varied climate depending on where you are in the state. It’s influenced by mountains and lakes, and is close by to the Atlantic Ocean too. In the south east you’ll find the warmest weather, while the mountains are predictably the coolest.
