Sioux Falls Tourist Attractions

Falls Park

Sioux Falls themselves is the top attraction of this city. Falls Park encompasses the falls and the Big Sioux River, making this a lovely place to come and walk and take numerous photos of the falls and surroundings. The park has trails for walking and cycling when you’re not looking at the Falls themselves, and though these aren’t as grand as somewhere like Niagara Falls they are scenic and attractive all the same.

Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science

Another major attraction of Sioux Falls is the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science. This is a number of attractions in one, including the science museum, art gallery, a concert hall and theatre. The science museum, called the Kirby Science Discovery Center takes up a large proportion of the whole attraction and has hands-on science exhibits, while the art gallery has six galleries of changing works and free of charge.

The Great Plains Zoo

If you’re visiting with children they will likely be interested in the science museum as well as one of Sioux Falls’ other attractions, the Great Plains Zoo. The zoo has over 850 animals from numerous different species, plus within the grounds is the Delbridge Museum of Natural History.

Old Courthouse Museum

Another museum can be found within the Old Courthouse of Sioux Falls. If you’re interested in finding out more about the local history of Sioux Falls and the surrounding area, this museum covers three floors and has plenty to see and read about. The Old Courthouse is part of that history as it was built in the 1800s and features a large clock tower.

USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial

If you’re visiting Sioux Falls to see the actual USS South Dakota battleship you’ll be disappointed as it’s not actually here! However, this is a great memorial to the battleship and is full of many different historical artefacts from it, the most decorated ship in World War 2.

When Should You Visit Sioux Falls?

Sioux Falls is hot and quite humid during the summer months so not the best time for sightseeing. Spring and autumn have milder temperatures and less humidity and thunderstorms, so this is a better time, while winters can get cold and unpleasant.
