Texas is the United States’ second largest city and has a reputation for everything being larger than life! It’s situated in the south central part of the country, and offers bustling cities, national parks and lots more.

Texas Tourist Attractions

Austin

Officially nicknamed Live Music Capital of the World, Austin is the capital city of Texas and is a bustling and popular tourist destination. There are many live music venues making this a popular place for music fans, plus there’s lots of other culture to enjoy here too.

Being the capital of Texas, Austin is home to the Texas State Capitol Building, and it’s the major landmark for the city. It’s actually the largest state capitol building in the USA and at the time of completion, in 1885, it is reputed to have been the seventh largest building in the world.

Houston

Houston is the largest city in the state of Texas so it’s very large! Overall it’s the fourth largest city in the USA and so it has something for everyone including shopping, culture, entertainment, sights and more. Among the many things you can see and do in Houston there is the Houston Zoo, Chase Tower, Space Center Houston, museums and much more.

Dallas

Dallas is one of the best known cities in Texas and is also very popular with the tourists. It is also home to numerous museums, including the Sixth Floor Museum which is inside the building in which Lee Harvey Oswald allegedly short JFK from. For family fun there’s lots here too including the large Dallas World Aquarium with its aquarium and rainforest, plus Dallas Zoo which is home to over 8000 animals. Dallas is also considered a shopper’s paradise as there are countless shopping malls here!

National Parks of Texas

Texas isn’t just about cities though; there’s plenty of scenery here too, and a couple of places you can experience some of this is in the two national parks of Texas: Big Bend National Park, and Guadalupe Mountains National Park. These are the only two national parks as such, but Texas also has a number of attractions operated by the National Parks Service. There’s the famous Alamo in San Antonio for example, and other historical sites include the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Park, and Fort Davis National Historic Site.

When Should You Visit Texas?

Texas is well known for being a hot state and while this is true you have to consider the fact that the climate can be quite different from one end to the other. In the north of Texas you’ll be in Tornado Alley and should watch out for tornadoes between April and June especially. In the winter it can remain warm in Texas, but the higher mountains will have snowfall, so again make sure you’re prepared depending on where you’re going.
