Wisconsin Tourist Attractions
Milwaukee
Milwaukee is the best known city in Wisconsin, and this is probably because it’s the largest city in the state. Situated on Lake Michigan, Milwaukee has lots to see and do, including summertime boat trips around the harbour and Lake Michigan, or down Milwaukee River.
Milwaukee is famous for its breweries and you can tour several of the breweries within the city, visit the Milwaukee Art Museum, and admire historic architecture including buildings constructed by the large Polish community.
Madison
Madison may not be as well known but this is actually the capital city of the state of Wisconsin. It’s fairly small, but this makes it quite a charming place to visit. It’s home to the State Capitol Building which was modeled after the White House. The original state capitol burnt down in the early 1900’s so this one was constructed in 1912. Parts of the building are open for tours by the public, and in the summer you an also enjoy a visit to the observation deck where you’ll get some great views.
Though relatively small Madison is a lively place and has some great cultural attractions, restaurants, shops and bars to enjoy.
Green Bay
If you know anything about American Football you’ll have heard of the Green Bay Packers. The Packers’ home is Lambeau Field in the small city of Green Bay, Wisconsin and fans can see the stadium and visit the Green bay Packer Hall of Fame.
The Great Outdoors
With the Great Lakes on the doorstep, Wisconsin has many opportunities for enjoying the great outdoors! The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is a good place to enjoy Lake Superior as it includes 12 miles of lakeshore plus 21 islands. If you prefer to swim in a pool rather than a lake you can visit the Wisconsin Dells. This is known as the Water Park Capital of the World as it has many different water parks and includes the largest in the country, Noah’s Ark.
Back to nature, and Door County is very scenic and attractive. This is a region located on a peninsula jutting into Lake Michigan and features state parks and great scenery, as well as pretty villages, lighthouses, museums and more.
When Should You Visit Wisconsin?
You should definitely come to Wisconsin in the summer for sightseeing and enjoying the scenery as the weather is hot and quite sunny this time of year. The weather can be changeable with Wisconsin being on the edge of two of the Great Lakes, and the water really affects the state during the winter when it gets cold and snowy.
