The Tourist Attractions of Malololailai

Despite being well known as one of the top tourist destinations in Fiji, Malololailai is an exceedingly small island, set within a group of equally small islands!

Malololailai is next to the slightly larger island of Malolo – the Lai Lai part of the name means ‘little’, as in the smaller version of Malolo. Though the two islands are usually separated, at low tide it is possible to cross from one to the other via a sand spit.

Being such a small island, Malololailai and its neighbours do not feature tons of tourist attractions to keep you busy, but they do feature stunning beaches and gorgeous blue waters. If relaxing on the beach is your idea of the perfect holiday, then Malololailai certainly hits the mark.

Apart from simply relaxing on the beaches, visitors who want a little more action can enjoy some of the spectacular diving opportunities around this, and the other islands in the chain. Scuba diving and snorkelling allows you to see some of the plentiful marine life up close.

Deep sea fishing is also popular out of Malololailai, and the horseshoe shaped marina is a very popular spot for yachts to moor because it is so sheltered and deep. For other activities there’s usually the opportunity to try sports like parasailing, or sea kayaking, and there are some popular surfing spots nearby too.

Being so small, Malololailai only has a couple of resorts, but there are also a number of resorts to choose from on the neighbouring islands too if you find that Malololailai is fully booked. The resorts are known for being top-notch, making this a perfect destination for visitors who are celebrating a special occasion and want to splash out a little! Resort facilities vary, but you might find a restaurant and bar, nightlife, a supermarket, swimming pools, water sport opportunities and more.

When Should You Visit Malololailai?

The tropical marine climate keeps Malololailai warm to hot all year round, and because it’s moderated by trade winds there’s always a nice warming breeze to keep you from getting too hot! The high temperature is usually no more than about 35C.

Between December and February the islands have their rainy season; this is also the time when Malololailai is most likely to suffer from the effects of a tropical cyclone.
