Located in central Bolivia is the city of Cochabamba and it’s nestled within the Cochabamba Valley in the Andes Mountain range. It’s the third largest city in Bolivia and is known as the City of Eternal Spring for its year-round spring-like weather.
Flights to Cochabamba
The airport in Cochabamba is the Jorge Wilstermann Airport (airport code: CBB), but it does not accept overseas flights to Cochabamba so all routes will transfer at least once in South America. From London, all flights to Cochabamba will therefore have 2 stops. Continental Airlines has a route through Miami and Buenos Aires, and Delta Airlines stops in Atlanta and Buenos Aires. Another option is with either British Midland or TAM Linhas Aereas, and travel through Sao Paulo and Asuncion for a flight to Cochabamba.

Cochabamba is a popular resort city, attracting not only Bolivians but visitors fro around the world due to its attractive setting and pleasant climate. There are several attractions within the city apart from the scenery and the weather, including some that you might not expect!
Cristo de la Concordia
If you’ve always wanted to see the Christ statue in Rio de Janeiro that the city is so famous for, you have the chance to see one very similar here in Cochabamba. The statue of Christ in Cochabamba is actually slightly larger and taller than that of Rio de Janeiro; a fact that makes it actually the tallest statue of Christ in the world. It’s situated up on a hill so offers some fantastic views of Cochabamba and can be reached by walking, car or taking the cable car.
Plaza 14 de Septiembre
The square called Plaza 14 de Septiembre is considered to be the heart of Cochabamba. It’s a nice square where you can sit in the shade of trees and admire views of the attractive cathedral, built in the 18th century. This isn’t the only religious landmark in the city as elsewhere there is the Cochabamba Bolivia Temple which is a temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The attractive architecture of the temple is said to be a modern design reflecting the culture of Bolivia.
Simon I. Patino Cultural Centre
At the Simon I. Patino Cultural Centre you’ll find several attractions in one. The main building is the Palacio Portales mansion which was built by Patino; a tin magnate in the 1930s. Guided tours are available. The gardens are also very nice, while there’s also an art museum on site, called the Centro de Arte Contemporaneo.
Another of Cochabamba’s museums is the Museum of Natural History.
Paragliding
It may seem unlikely but Cochabamba is said to be the paragliding capital of Bolivia. If you’re experienced then you can go out and enjoy yourself, or if you’ve never flown before you can make use of one of the courses available from several operators, said to be among the cheapest in South America.
La Cancha
One of the most popular attractions in Cochabamba is the city market, La Cancha, which is the largest open air market in South America where just about everything is sold!
When Should You Visit Cochabamba?
The mild climate makes Cochabamba a popular destination to visit throughout the year, remaining warmer than the surrounding Antiplano region despite the high elevation of Cochabamba. Generally for the warmest weather visit between November and March, however this is usually the wetter time of year too.
