Aracaju Tourist Attractions
Cathedral
A beautiful cathedral makes a lovely place to sight-see, on the Plaza Olimpio Campos. It's generally just known as the Cathedral, but the official name is the Catedral Metropolitana Nossa Senhora de Conceicao. It was built in the late 1800s, in the neo-Classical style. There are also some nice parks and shops around the church to enjoy while visiting.
Museu Rosa Faria
Museu Rosa Faria is a small museum near the cathedral that showcases the history of the state. Various pieces of historical artwork are on display, most notably their collection of painted ceramics and azulejo panels. Another good museum in town is the Military Police Museum, located on the same street to the south.
Parque dos Cajueiros
A large recreational park area named for the cashew tree, Parque dos Cajueiros is south of downtown Aracaju, and easy to reach. The lake makes it a peaceful place to go walking, or just sitting and relaxing in the shade.
Oceanarium
Watch some of the native fish and animals up close in the large indoor aquariums of Aracaju. There are more than 60 species of fish at the Oceanarium, including some smaller sharks.
Parque Governador Jose Rolemberg Leite
Another place in Aracaju to see some animals, as well as enjoy a large park setting, is Parque Governador Jose Rolemberg Leite. It's just a small zoo but great for anyone travelling with children.
Marketplace
What city doesn't have at least one busy outdoor market? In Aracaju, you will need to go about a block away from the Ponte do Imperador (the Emperor's Bridge), to find craft vendors of all sorts waiting to be haggled with.
Beaches
You can't come to Aracaju without spending some time out on the beach. The Atalaia beach is right in the city, and the most popular one among tourists because it is both clean and convenient. You can also take a boat ride over to the island of Santa Luzia that is across the river, and find more beaches there. These are also good areas for boating and fishing.
When Should You Visit Aracaju?
