The closest airport for flights to Belo Horizonte is the Tancredo Neves/Confins International Airport (airport code: BHZ), nearly 25 miles (40km) from town. There are shuttles and public buses for transit. You can book a 1-stop flight to Belo Horizonte from the UK with either BMI or British Airways and have a transfer stop in Sao Paulo, or fly with TAP Air Portugal and stop in Lisbon. If you caught a flight to Belo Horizonte with TAM Linhas Aereas, you'd have a connection in Frankfurt as well as in Sao Paulo.

Mangabeiras Park
Mangabeiras Park is a large forested area just outside of the city and a beautiful place to go hiking to see some of the natural sights of the region. Mangabeiras Park holds forests, a lake, hot springs and bubbling mud pots so there are many things to see. The trails are all well-marked and well-maintained, and there are picnic areas and water fountains throughout the park as well. You can take a public bus right to the front gates from Belo Horizonte.
Museum of Arts and Crafts
The Museum of Arts and Crafts is in downtown Belo Horizonte, on the Station Square, where you can see handmade items from periods throughout Brazil's history. Most of the items in the collection are tools, machines and other sorts of utensils that illustrate the ingenuity of the local people. The museum is closed on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays, and it usually opens around noon. Admission is free.
Guanabara Park
Guanabara Park is an amusement park with arcade games and rides for the whole family. They have all the classic rides, like the Ferris wheel, carousel, and bumper boats as well as many more unique ones like the Ghost Train and the Cyclone. Their hours are limited to the weekends during the school year, but in the summer they are open every day except for Mondays. You can find the park on the south shore of the lagoon in Belo Horizonte.
Mercado Central
As with most cities, you can really enjoy the local culture by visiting one of the open market areas. The largest market in Belo Horizonte is at Av. Augusto del Lima and R. Curitiba. It's filled with vendors selling all kinds of fresh fruit, meat, cheese, textiles and any type of souvenir you might like.
Belo Horizonte Zoo
The zoological park is home to more than 200 species of animals, some common to the area and some that are endangered. There are also large botanical gardens at the zoo, and greenhouses filled with native and exotic plants. The zoo has also recently opened a large freshwater aquarium exhibit as well.

The climate is quite warm in Belo Horizonte and the best weather for seeing the city is in early summer. Between May and July it will reach 25C (77F) during the day, which is the coolest time of the year as well as the driest. From December until March, it will be rainy and closer to 28C (82F) during the days.
