Flights to Barquisimeto
Places in Venezuela
Barquisimeto is one of the largest cities in Venezuela, though it isn't packed with tourist attractions. Founded in 1552, Barquisimeto is now the Lara state capital and a very modern city, located in west central Venezuela.
Flights to Barquisimeto
Though the Jacinto Lara International Airport (airport code: BRM) does have some international service, there are no scheduled flights to Barquisimeto from the UK. You'll need to fly into Caracas' Simon Bolivar International Airport (code: CCS) and then get a flight to Barquisimeto with Avior Airlines or Aserca Airlines. To Caracas, you can fly with TAP Air Portugal for a stop in Lisbon, or transfer in Madrid with Iberia. You can also fly through Houston with either Continental or United.
Barquisimeto Tourist Attractions
Barquisimeto Museum
The exhibits at the Barquisimeto Museum include both historical displays as well as those containing local artwork. It's housed in a traditional old building that used to be a hospital until the museum moved here in the 1980s. You can learn more about the city, and the rest of the state. The museum is only open Monday to Friday and is closed over lunch times.
The Cathedral Metropolitana de Barquisimeto
The Cathedral Metropolitana de Barquisimeto is not a classical or gothic Cathedral as you might expect but rather an impressive modern construction of steel and glass. The overall shape is designed after an inverted flower blossom, with 4 petals and a tall spire in the centre. It was built to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the city's founding. The Cathedral is an actual church, so visitors should take care if touring around on Sundays.
National Parks
There are several national parks in the area surrounding Barquisimeto, so you can take your pick if you want to get out of the city for some wilderness and hiking. The closest ones are the Terepaima National Park, Yacambu National Park, El Guache National Park, Cerro Saroche National Park, and the Tirgua National Park. They all offer different scenery and opportunities to see many species of local wildlife.
Dunes Amusement Park
You will have to take a short trip to Valencia for this attraction, but it's worth the drive (it's about 60 miles/100km from Barquisimeto). There are rides for all ages, along with a number of games and activities. Water slides, go karts, mini golf and batting cages are just a few examples. The entrance fee doesn't cover the water park area, so you would have to buy a second ticket for that. The park is open 7 days a week during the summers, but only on the weekends otherwise.
When Should You Visit Barquisimeto?
The temperatures are mostly constant throughout the year, so you will have the same weather nearly any time you visit. The average daytime temperatures are around 28C (84F), though March and April will get a degree or two warmer. So you can book your trip anytime for warm but pleasant weather.
There is a religious festival and procession through the city on January 14th when up to 2 million people will be in the streets. It's good time to visit if you enjoy the crowds, otherwise, avoid making plans for this time.
