Las Piedras is a fishing village just to the north of the city of Punto Fijo in the north of Venezuela. The Caribbean Sea location of Las Piedras would make this a great tourist destination, but as yet tourists have not discovered Las Piedras, so now may actually be a good time to visit!

Las Piedras Tourist Attractions

The fishing village of Las Piedras has a lot going for it and although it lies within a popular tourist region, the village is still mainly undiscovered by tourists. If you’re looking for a Caribbean holiday that includes luxurious hotels and many restaurants to choose from, then right now Las Piedras is not the place for you! However, if you want to enjoy the Caribbean Sea in a relaxing way, not surrounded by tourists, hotels and restaurants, Las Piedras would be ideal!

It has a beautiful setting after all; the small port has fishing boats coming and going while the Caribbean Sea is attractive and inviting as always. The fishermen bring back fresh catches that are renowned for their quality, and particularly include shrimp, so if you’re looking for seafood this is a great place to have some.

Apart from the port and the sea you won’t find much in the way of tourist attractions in Las Piedras itself. However, the village has become almost a suburb of the larger city of Punto Fijo, who’s city centre is only a couple of miles away.

Punto Fijo isn’t the prettiest place for tourists as it’s home to one of the largest oil refineries in the world and it’s quite a new city, having only been founded in the 1940s. Again, the coastal location means this could be a really popular tourist destination, and in order to attract more tourists to here and Las Piedras the government has made this a Free Zone. This means there are no taxes on a variety of goods, making this an affordable place to go shopping.

Hotels and other tourist services have been improved and added to because of the Free Zone, and several large shopping malls are springing up around the city, so Las Piedras may yet be developed in tandem!

When Should You Visit Las Piedras?

Temperatures hardly change though – the average high is in the low 30’s C all year, and the average low in the mid 20’s C.
