Maturin Tourist Attractions
Maturin Cathedral
Officially named the Cathedral Nuestra Senora del Carmen, Maturin Cathedral is an attractive catholic church that is one of the major landmarks of the city. The traditional architecture gives this church an older feel than its actual years, so it surprises some visitors to learn that this was actually built between 1961 and 1981. The interior features a long hall, with very tall ceilings and an even higher dome that lets in an amazing amount of light compared to more historical cathedrals.
Church San Simon
The San Simon Church is much smaller in comparison and is the oldest church in Maturin, built between 1884 and 1887. The church sits in front of Plaza Bolivar and has a very attractive setting with the square and trees in front of it. The square is also home to the Palacio de Gobierno, built in 1942.
Museums in Maturin
The Cultural Complex of Maturin makes a good visit as it’s home to several different cultural institutions, including the Museum Mateo Manaure, and an art school, as well as a pedestrian art gallery.
For more arts visit the Art Gallery of the CONAC, and for a taste of the theatre there’s the attractive little Casa de la Cultura.
Parks in Maturin
Maturin has a number of attractive parks, of varying sizes. Parque de La Guaricha is a zoological park with lakes and trees situated almost right at the end of the runway of the Maturin International Airport, so when you visit this park you can also watch the planes come and go.
